There are many rainy days in Vancouver. I knew this coming in, but I don't think that I was fully prepared for the amount of rain that would fall. So Ellen, when you read this - if there is one thing you can send me its an umbrella!!! I don't think I'll get through the winter without one.
This weekend has been one of relaxing and just chillin' with friends. It's nice to have the time to just do that.
Friday night was cool at Darren's. We hung out and obviously played a question game(that didn't last long though). After that faded, we went into a conversation about a new rule that has been added for the war college students - No guys and girls in each others rooms. Sound a little harsh? For people who are supposed to be grown-ups, I think so. But I am abiding by it. Lets see if I can explain how it all came about.
just like I have 3 roommates, there is one group of boys who have 4 in their room. They actually have 2 rooms - one which they have put their beds into and one which they have turned into a lounge. The lounge seems to have become the hub of the war college students; a place to chill and see other people.
We already had a rule that states when guys and girls are alone(one on one) in a room together they leave the door open(like bedrooms and the war room), but in this lounge room that wasn't happening. There was also (a) girl(s) that were sleeping on the couch and showering regularly in their bathroom. This just couldn't happen anymore, so they added a new rule.
The rule itself has been added to overthrow the appearance of evil that can come from the situation, so in that respect I agree with it whole-heartedly. In other respects it annoys me. I'm 28 years old and cannot go into a boys room...kinda makes me feel like I'm back in high school when my mom used to make me leave the door open when boys came over!! Either that or we had to sit in the living room!!!! Anyway, now we can sit in each others door frames!! ha. I did that last night - RoRo and I sat in Joe & Joshua's doorframe until 1am. Its just a little retarded!
Anyway, its not that big of a deal.
Last night I got to visit briefly with Keith & Shona(my Corps Officers-pastors) so that was nice. They are the guests for youth councils here, so I headed up to camp with Darren to say hello. We took the ferry to the island and had dinner on the Corps...sweet stuff! It was too bad the last ferry back is so early(8:30) because we didn't get to stay until the end of the program. Either way it was good to hear and see a little of home. I miss it more than I admit sometimes.
Time to prepare for SWAT tonight.
Blessings.

Hey Denise,
My wife said that she met you a couple of weeks ago at ACC and that you were really cool. I like that our histories cross paths all the time..it's the wonderful thing about marriage!
About the new rule. I think it is an awesome rule and put in place for good reason. Scripture says to be in the world, but not of the world...so why would we behave - even mildly - like the world? Why would a female sleep and shower in a guy's apartment when it wasn't hers? What was(is) wrong with hers? Why would anyone want to bring doubt and the potential lack of integrity to the ministry of the WAR College? Do you know how quickly rumors can spread? Just by posting it in your blog probably increased the speed in which that happening is being spread.
WAR College is already on the edge as far as mainstream ministry goes...it doesn't need a reputation for its students having loose morals!
Sorry if I am coming across as preachy, but as you can tell, I have very strong feelings in this area.
i agree with Rob here.
As for the rain there, girl. . . i think that would drive me crazy! Thanx for keeping us updated. .its nice to read what you're all up to. Rob and prayed for you all last night - i often pray on my own for you, so it was nice to have Rob pray for the Army and the War College in particular.
