So...homelessness. What do you think of when you hear/see that word? Some person on the street? Someone asking for money? Christians? Jesus? I've been thinking about this a lot tonight - and looking back at the topic in one of my journals. It was from a Bible study(I think) last year at Roots entitled, 'Homeless Jesus.'
1. Jesus was not homeless:
-He consciously lived constantly in the Father's presence.
-He entered a family with roots and location
-He valued his family life with mother, brothers, sisters.
-He accepted the hospitality of various mission homes.
John 13
2. Yet He chose to be homeless:
-Jesus voluntarily made a journey into a far land.
-He experienced the rejection and total isolation. John 6:66
-He deliberately identified with the homeless people of the world.
3. Jesus calls his followers to be homeless:
-Jesus remains incarnate through his spirit in his followers.
-His church is by definition a living body rather than a settled institution.
-His mandate requires Christian Mission as concern for body, mind, and soul(where do you think the original name of the Army came from?!).
-He calls his followers into pilgrin journey(key point).
The message is simple and summed up in these 2 words: FOLLOW ME!!
Jesus commands us to go
but we go the other way
So He carries the burden alone
While his children are busy at play
feeling so called to stay
Oh how God grieves and believes
That the world can't be saved
Unless the one's He's appointed obey
His command and His stand
for the world, that he loved more
than life -
Oh he died, and he cries out tonight
Jesus commands us to go
It should be the exception if we stay
Its no wonder we're moving so slow
When his church refuse to obey
Feeling so called to stay
Blessings!
