adventures in bangor - part I

There were definitely adventures had in Bangor this weekend, and other than it being extremely windy, the weather participated and the temperature remained well above freezing.

The adventures began with me waking on Saturday morning to get some laundry done. I had put it off all week, waiting for the temperature to rise so that I didn't freeze going outside to the laundry room. A problem arose after the first load was complete - you see, the washing machine had decided that it didn't really want to drain or spin the water out of the load. I was sad, knowing that the dryer may not be able to do its job properly. However, after wringing out the load a little, I put it in the dryer and started a second load in the washer. Frustration set in when the first load didn't dry and the second load came out of the washer as wet as the first. Grrrr!!! In the end, and after investing $3.00 in the dryer, I went to the Burr house and they were nice enough to let me use their new dryer. Overall it took about 5 hours to do 2 loads of laundry.

With the laundry finally dry, Alberta(see side bar)and I pack into the car and head out on a across Bangor adventure.

Allow me to introduce you to Mr. Paul Bunyan. I have been told that there are a few stories about Mr. Bunyan's actual place of birth. Many here believe he was born in Bangor, which at one point in history was one of the great lumber capitals, eventually heading west in search of more timber.

In the parking lot near Paul, there was a picture just waiting to be taken. I could not resist showing my own patriot side and sharing it with you all. The Canadian flag blowing beside the American and flag of Bangor(?)

Another scenic(?) sight in Bangor happens to be the water tower. From what I'm told, they open it up at various times in the spring/summer for tourists to climb the stairs and see the view. I'm hoping to get to do that at some point this year.

I saw this across the street while we were waiting at a stop sign. My first thought was "Think Snow? I think not!!" I would be happier if it read "Think Spring!" Apparently these signs are made by Stephen King's wife.

And speaking of supporting the troops, I guess some were coming home over the weekend? People here often have messages such as this plastered on their cars and houses for that matter. This is definitely not something you would normally see in Canada.

Oh Timmy's how I love thee! A little piece of home here for me. This particular Tim's is in Brewer(the next town over). Its not that far away(although some here would probably say it is too far to go to!!!), and I hit it up a couple times a week. The next Tim's is currently in the construction phase. I'm excited about this one cause its just a little closer...down the street, across from the Army's Thrift Store! It is now Roll Up the Rim time at Tim Horton's. Sadly, I have not even won a free coffee =(
