assignment

I found out today(about 30 seconds ago, actually) about one of my(our) assignments while here in Bangor. It is to blog everyday!! Wow. So here is my first one. I cannot promise that these will all be riveting and jam packed, but I will do my best to fill you in on where I am with things through the summer.

Days in Bangor: 3
Soup Kitchen lunch: Some sort of macaroni casserole!

Bangor is a nice town; quaint. It almost reminds me of your stereotypical small town USA. The one thing that seems to be different than that stereotype is that the people here are not all that friendly. What I mean by this is that (it seems) they stick to themselves and the groups that they know. Of course, by saying this I am stereotyping them as well and that's not a good thing. At this point I'm only going by what I've heard. We are doing our best to say hello to people we meet on the street and try to combat that a little.
Spent some time this morning walking around the neighborhood of the Corps. Its only a few blocks away from the downtown core so it was interesting to walk around down there and see what's going on. There are a lot of stores and things that are advertising for spiritual 'well-being' and that sort of new age stuff(ICK!). Now we have some clue as to where we can prayer walk and know of some places to target.
Lunch was had a the soup kitchen. Soup kitchen is attatched to the Corps here and can feed quite a few people over the lunch hour. Part of our time here will be spent in there, having lunch with those who come in, chatting it up and getting to know people. Its kind of like Re:cre8 in Vancouver, only with a meal and not as long. Also, we don't have to set up or clean up!! =)
In about 30 minutes I'll be helping out with my first kids program and I'm looking forward to it. For the moment its a smaller program, and from the sounds of it, there will be more kids once summer hits. That's exciting.
I think that's about it. I'm sure at times I'll get into some more meaty stuff - like what I'm reading or where I'm at other than this basic stuff - so don't worry!
Thanks for all your comments! Keep 'em coming. And if you want to e-mail me you can... djknee@gmail.com

Blessings.
