Firstly, let me say a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my big sister, Ellen!!! She apparently thinks she's 29 for the umpteenth time...so we'll let her believe that, if that's what works for her! Love you, Ellie-poo Indian! lol!
Its Friday and I'm happy about that. This weekend is going to be one spent hopefully doing a whole lot of nothing! It feels like its been a while since I've had some time for nothing, so I'm going to use it while I can.
Christmas Kettles start next week. For those of you reading who may not know what a kettle is, its one of the red buckets, or clear bubbles(in Ontario) that The Salvation Army put out in various locations at Christmas. It is one of the organizations(because we're known mostly for the organization side than the church side, sadly) biggest fundraising times of the year.
This year my session mates from my hotel will be joining together as a team to go out and run 2 kettles. Our aim is to 1.evangelize and 2. raise more money than the other hotels!! ha. A little bit of friendly competition never hurt anyone. On the competition side we are vying for first spots at specialling assignments in the new year(specialling is when you go away to another Corps(church) and do a weekend with them...like the youth, or the church as a whole. You preach and do whatever else. You are the guests). Fun Stuff!!
Anyway, kettles start on Monday and its going to be a busy season - as usual in The Salvation Army!
Today my brigade did GAP(genocide awareness project). We stood on a busy street corner for an hour(in the freezing, pouring rain) holding up large signs about abortion. It is a topic that interests me so much and this year I have been able to learn a lot. However, we often get people saying things to us - today I was told to go home and that I suck! - But one lady said something to me that made me think the most....The top of the signs say 'Choice' and she mentioned to me while passing that "its too bad we aren't giving her children the choice of not to look at these horrible pictures."
At first I felt kind of bad about that, because I'm not 100% sure if I'd want my niece and nephew looking at them. Then I started to think...if these pictures are the worst that they will be exposed to(sadly)in their lives, than their mother may as well keep them in a bubble at home. I don't know...it just got me thinking.
Its time for dinner, so I'm out for now.
Blessings.
