So today I accompanied my sister to Sick Kids hospital where my nephew had to go for a 6 week check up on his eyes(he's cross-eyed and requires surgery). We took the bus and subway down, enjoying the fun with the kids and listening to my niece spell out the name of every subway stop along the way. We sat in the waiting room adoring the little people as they waited for their turns(there were some really tiny little babies...SO cute), we saw the Doctor and we left. Other than getting what needed to be done done, it was a pretty uneventful morning. That is until....
WARDEN STATION!
This place holds many memories for me and my sister. This is the station where we boarded the train many times to head to my grandmothers - it is the one that we always went to. It has been many years since I've hit Warden station but the sites, sounds and most importantly the smells of the station have not changed one bit. There is a small coffee shop there that sells many staples from my childhood - specifically jamaican beef patties(mild) on a cocoa bun...MMMmmm!! We always looked forward to hitting warden and grabbing one of those for the bus ride home, and today was no different. This morning when we prepared to leave the house, our excitement mounted and our mouths watered with the thought of getting a beef patty on bread! And now there is one waiting in the fridge for me to pop in the microwave and heat up at my liesure. You cannot possibly imagine how happy I will be come dinner time.
Not only did I get my favorite warden station staple, I also was happy to see(as I browsed around) that this shop also sold(for only $1) a staple from my summer in Ecuador...Empenada's!!! I was giddy with joy(and being looked at funny by the people around me - namely my sister) to be able to chomp down on something that gave so many memories to my team and I! The team would glow when they realized that the nationals had brought us "cheese bread" for lunch or dinner. Mmmm...I can't wait to taste this and see if it compares! Its nice to know that there is somewhere to buy these...so I don't have to try and cook them!! lol
Cheese Empenada - the joy!
