Before I head off for the summer, the organization that I am travelling with asks its leaders to read and do "homework" on a few books. I am currently reading the first one - and no, I didn't procrastinate on it, I just received the package of literature!
This first book is entitled 'The Way of the Cross' and is a compilation of articles on revival from the Christian magazine "Challange"(which I believe is no longer being published).
Thus far I have read the introduction and the preface-I'm not even finished it yet!-and I'm already LOVING it!!
Here is the first, of what I'm sure will be many quotes on the topic of revival(which my denomination is in dire need of). I will eventually add my own thoughts as well. Just not tonight! However, I would love to hear what you have to say. Tell me what you think!
"Revival is not something which God does to unsaved people. It is His work among His won people. They have life, but sometimes it grows weak. Revival is the strengthening and reawakening of that life. The unsaved person needs life, because he does not have it. But the Christian who has wandered away from God needs to be revived. The more fully and openly we confess our sins to God, the more fully He will revive us. When this happens among Christians, God will work among the unsaved in new power. We shall see Him working in grace in their hearts."
And one more...I can't resist...this is great stuff!
"When God's people are humbly walking with Him, unsaved people will turn to God. The two things go together. The world has lost its faith because the Church has lost its zeal."
I'm off to finish the preface!! =)
Blessings.

Dee.... that's some great stuff there, hon! Capt Geoff Ryan came to my former corps and preached the greatest preach i think i've heard on revival. He said that some individual ppl and churches need 'revival' and others need 'resurrection' cuz there's no life in them to be revived. . which goes along with the quote you shared. ". . . the world has lost its faith because the Church has lost its zeal." How true. . . and how sad.
I could cry a river and have done so on many occasions over this same sadness. . . If my 'church' has no zeal for God and won't be willing to be resurrected or revived, it doesn't mean that I have to stay in the 'dead zone'. . and it certainly doesn't mean that I personally can't be resurrected and/or revived and indeed I must be!
I'm so glad that you're following God's leading.
love and prayers,
