prayer and the art of dental maintenance

I went to the dentist today. I dislike going to the dentist very much. So much so that he had the laughing gas on stanby-just in case I went a little batty.
Today I had a root canal and one wisdom tooth pulled. All of this was done with a whole heck of a lot of freezing! I must say though, that I have a great dentist. He is calming, makes me laugh and laughs at me when I'm being a freak(which is usually when I'm sitting in his chair!). But today I threw him for a loop.
I walked into the room feeling super anxious. The hygenist came in and tried to calm me down, explaining what would happen and letting me know that she has also had a root canal done before(as if that helps in any way!). She leaves the room, letting me know that the Doctor will be in soon enough to give me the freezing....5 minutes later, no Doctor....10 minutes, no Doctor. At this point I'm way past anxious! I figure the only thing I can do is pray. Pray for the Doctor, the assistant, the tools, goodness! I'll pray for anything and anyone coming near my mouth! My eyes are closed and I'm beginning to relax when unbeknownst to me, the Doctor has walked in. He says "Good Morning, Denise!" and I jump! He makes a joke apologizing for waking me and I tell him as I laugh "Oh, I wasn't sleeping, I was praying." His facial expression at this response was great and I wish I had a camera on me. He says "Really? And what were you praying for, if you don't mind me asking?" I tell him that I was praying for him, Lindsey(the hygenist), for calmness of spirit and body for me. He was kinda shocked when I say this to him but responds quickly with "Well, thank you. I appreciate it."

God works, even from the dentists chair. And after that, and a whole lot of freezing, I was nice and calm. I didn't feel a thing.
Blessings.

i have yet to meet a person who turns cartwheels at the thought of going to the dentist! I'm soo glad, Dee that you told him that you were praying and that you answered him when he asked what for. . that's awesome. How are you feeling now? better? my little KK is going in 3 days to get all 4 of her wisdom teeth out! ouch! I only had 2 out. . in the dentist's office with just freezing - no problem, but when the freezing wore off, YIKES! She's having a light general anesthetic, so of course she won't be conscious. . my poor baby! everyone seems to have their wisdom teeth out in the last month. . why do they call them 'wisdom' teeth? crazy!

ahh...the war stories from the dentist's chair.
I'm not too fond of that depressed people only destination.
yeah, it's not the pain that drives me away.. it's the awkardness...
" Open big please, Paul" (Meanwhile I feel like a muel trying to kiss an apple) But the probing doesn't stop.."Open up wider please Paul". The dentist doesn't seem to appreciate my humor either.. at this point of the "filling operation thingy" I ask him if he is actually trying to give me a filling, or trying to turn me into Steve Tyler.

Anyway. Glad your root canal went alright!
