announcing...

Today at work I was reading a book section of Tuesday's Globe & Mail. One columnist had, on a previous day, put a challenge out to his readers. The challenge was this : To come up with how well known people(dead or alive) would be announced when you reach the pearly gates of heaven. Here are a few that the readers came up with...

(Robert Plant): "You look enhausted. I'll bet you wish you'd written elevator to Heaven!"

"Why Mr. Einstein! Surely you came through here yesterday!"

(Col. Sanders): "How delightful. You've brought your own wings."

(John Lennon): "Imagine there's no Heaven. Just kidding."

(Alexander Graham Bell): "Your visit is very important to us. All angels are currently busy..."

This got me thinking. How will I be annouced when I arrive at the pearly gates? Will I be announced? Have you ever thought about this?

21Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles? 23Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you." (Mt.7:21-23)

Not my will Father, but thine be done. How easily we forget this and wander into our own worlds with our own thoughts and our own decisions. How often do I cry out to God only to worm myself out of the Will that He is calling me towards? Coming up with excuse after excuse just to follow my own way. I don't pray enough, I don't read my Bible enough, and I don't spread His word enough.

We all have things we need to work on. But please, my friends, take some time to think about how you, today, would be announced at the pearly gates. Then think about how you would like to be annouced. How do they compare?
Not my will Father, but thine be done.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." (Mt.25:21)

This is what I'm working towards. I can't wait to hear these words!

Blessings.
